What to Expect During Your First CoolSculpting Treatment

The frustrating thing about pockets of fat like love handles and muffin tops is that they simply refuse to go away. You can cut calories and exercise, never slipping up once, and get down to your healthy weight — and still be stuck with problem fat.

But that stubborn fat is no match for CoolSculpting®. Your unwanted fat is defenseless against CoolSculpting’s ability to destroy it with freezing temperatures.

We offer CoolSculpting here at Tahoe Women’s Care in Carson City, Nevada, because it’s noninvasive, it permanently removes fat, and it’s a perfect part of our goal to support women’s total health.

Let’s talk about CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting offers today’s most advanced technology for permanently eliminating resistant fat by freezing the fat cells.

We place the CoolSculpting applicator directly against your skin, then suction gently pulls the targeted area of fat up between two cooling panels. Fat is more sensitive to the direct cold than your skin, so the temperature is controlled to freeze fat without harming your skin.

The frozen cells gradually die and, over time, your body naturally eliminates the dead waste. As a result, the fat is gone for good and you have the body shape you wanted. All those fat cells that refused to budge are destroyed without calorie cutting and exercising.

CoolSculpting treats visible fat bulges under your chin, and on your thighs, abdomen, flanks, and upper arms. It’s also used to get rid of bra fat, back fat, and underneath the buttocks.

The consultation before your first CoolSculpting treatment

We’ll meet before you come in for your first treatment so we can talk about your body shaping objectives, examine your body, and be sure CoolSculpting can help you reach your fat reduction goals.

Depending on the size and the number of problem areas, you may need more than one session. We’ll define the process and the number of sessions you’ll need during your consultation. Then we’ll schedule your first treatment.

What to expect during your first CoolSculpting treatment

After you relax in a comfortable chair, we’ll apply a gel pad and CoolSculpting applicator to the targeted area of fat. You probably suspect you’ll feel the cold — and you’re right — but you’ll only feel the intense cold during the first 5-10 minutes, then the area becomes numb.

You’ll also feel some pulling or tugging due to the suction, and possibly a little aching or cramping, at the start of your procedure. These sensations also go away once you’re numb.

Throughout your treatment, you can simply read, check email, or take a nap while your doomed fat is frozen.

One session takes 35-60 minutes, depending on the size of the area we’re treating. When your session is finished, we massage the area for a few minutes, which usually creates a tingling sensation.

After that, you’re free to leave and get back to your normal activities. No downtime is required for recovery.

Following the procedure, some people develop temporary redness, swelling, bruising or tenderness in the treated area. However, these side effects go away within a few days.

Your final results

The whole process of freezing and killing fat cells, then clearing them as waste, takes a little time. Many of our patients see the difference in three weeks, but optimal results appear in about two months. Your body continues to flush out the dead fat cells for 4-6 months, so you’ll see some more improvement during that time.*
