I’ve gone in and the medical assistants are always nice and kind to me. The first time I went in, the medical assistant asked me a few times if I am on birth control (no) and if I’m looking to get on birth control (firm no). My reasoning is because I don’t have super painful periods, and my periods are usually pretty regular. I went in looking for answers on why I was having really bad pain and the doctor hears my age and sexual activity status and spent my whole appointment talking to me about birth control rather than my symptoms of concern. It did come back as a bad infection and I was worried it would have affected my fertility, so coming back in for check up, it was one of my concerns for the doctor. Again, birth control was brought up and again, I said no, and he asked “are you trying to get pregnant?” And I said no. He kept looking at me with a look as if I was incompetent because I don’t want birth control and I don’t want to get pregnant. He then asked me “then why are you concerned about your fertility?” And I responded “for when I want to in the future” (I’m 19). I’m wondering if there is some sort of commission or kickback for this certain/special type of birth control that is trying to be pushed onto me. After my last quote, he then said “well if you change your mind, let me know” then just walked out. He isn’t very kind or gentle. During examination, he isn’t so gentle or calming. The medical assistant(s) that I’ve had in the room are usually the ones that are calming and gently talk to you and comfort you. The medical assistants are also the ones I can ask questions and get answers to the questions and concerns that I ask.
