Separating Fact From Fiction When It Comes to Female Sexual Dysfunction

Separating Fact From Fiction When It Comes to Female Sexual Dysfunction

Sexual dysfunction — it’s little wonder that the issue isn’t exactly a common topic of conversation with a name like that. Yet, it might surprise you to learn that sexual issues affect up to 43% of women, which means it’s likely that many women in your world face some of the same struggles as you.

The team of women’s health experts here at Tahoe Women’s Care, led by Dr. Gary Willen, is sensitive to the fact that sexual function issues among women are prevalent and we want to do our part to address them.

To start, we want to separate some of the facts from fiction when it comes to women’s sexual health.

The many different faces of sexual dysfunction

One of the most important points to understand about sexual health issues is that there are many roads that lead to difficulties. In general, women’s sexual dysfunction can be broken down into several categories, including:

As you can see, sexual dysfunction encompasses different areas of your life, including your mental, physical, emotional, and even cultural well-being.

More common than you think

We’ve already mentioned the fact that sexual health issues affect up to 43% of women, but we want to expand on this a little bit. For example, more than half of women between the ages of 51 and 60 experience vaginal dryness, which can make sex uncomfortable. While vaginal dryness may go along with menopause, it also affects 17% of women who are 18-50.

As another example, women are twice as likely to be diagnosed with depression than men, and this mental health issue can have a major impact on sexual health.

Our point here is that you’re far from alone if you’re experiencing sexual health issues.

There are solutions

For far too long, women simply hid their sexual issues, but we want you to know that there are solutions. We understand that this may be a difficult conversation for some, but our compassionate team is ready to listen and to help.

To get started, we listen as you share what’s going on with your sexual health. If it’s a physical problem, we determine the underlying cause to get you on the road to a happier sex life. For example, we might find that endometriosis is making sex painful, in which case we address this common gynecologic condition.

Or, perhaps your vaginal health has declined due to menopause. We can address this common issue through hormone replacement therapy or with our innovative vaginal rejuvenation technology called MonaLisa Touch®

If the sexual dysfunction stems from other areas of your health, such as your mental health, we can point you in the right direction for expert help.

No matter the underlying cause, our goal is to help you overcome the issue so this important aspect of your life can contribute to your overall wellness.

If you want to get to the bottom of your sexual health issues, please contact our office in Carson City, Nevada, to set up an appointment.
